All precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, thus it is important to wear your safety goggles at all times. Next, you should make sure that the water is turned off to the sink. You will need a small bucket to catch the excess water that may still remain in the pipes once the water has been turned off.

At this point, you are going to remove the old vanity. If your vanity has some type of mirror attached to it or above it, it is a good idea to remove the mirror to avoid any accidents. You cannot start by taking the whole vanity top off; you must first remove the sink. Underneath the vanity you will find some clips that may have to be removed, do not worry about breaking the clips. Your replacement vanity should have come with the clips that you will need to install it.

Since your vanity has probably been there for several years, you may need to a pry bar to assist you in removing the sink. If you find yourself having difficulties, it may be due to the old sealant surrounding the outer edge of the sink. Use your utility knife to cut the sealant away.

You will have to pry the old vanity top away from your cabinetry. Take every precaution possible not to damage your old cabinetry. Once the vanity top has been removed, take a damp cloth to clean any excess debris away from the edges. You may have to use your utility knife to remove some of the excess. Take your caulking gun and add a layer of latex caulk around the outer edge of your cabinetry where your old vanity sat.

Place your new vanity top on your cabinet, making sure to be extremely careful. It is advised that you have someone help you during this process. While the latex has not dried – you have the opportunity to adjust your vanity into the correct position. Once you have your vanity perfectly placed press down and let dry. You may notice some excess sealant around the edges; this can be removed with your utility knife.
