The vanity area, as it is commonly known, is where a person will sit to primp and preen when they wake up in the morning or before they leave the house for work or to go on a date. The majority of homes only use tables like this in the bathroom because many bedrooms are too small to accommodate one but some people, especially teenage girls, are willing to give up valuable wall space in exchange for their own personal grooming space. Occasionally a vanity set will be found in a boy’s room as well, but this is not very common. Usually at least one bathroom in the home has enough room for at least a small vanity table and chair.

Vanities for the bathroom are usually a cupboard with a smooth countertop which will make clean-up easy when makeup or other liquids or powders are spilled on it. Generally a large mirror is positioned above it or attached directly to the cupboard. The mirror should be large enough so that the person using it can see their whole head and shoulders without having to move around to view it all. This will help when curling or straightening longer hair.
Vanity tables that are intended for the bedroom are pretty much the same as the ones meant for the bathroom, but they can be slightly larger, and the countertop chosen for it can be quite colorful to accent the room it will go in. The mirror and countertop should both be much larger than the one for the bathroom because it will allow for more than one person to use it at a time. There are fixtures available that are intended specifically for use in this situation. Other accessories like curling iron holders can also be purchased to make this a very convenient work space.
